When a haul truck goes down, everything stops. On a big Komatsu like this one, that kind of downtime isn't just an inconvenience - it's a serious hit to productivity and the bottom line. The cylinder that came to us was in rough shape. The bore eye was badly damaged, the bushing was destroyed, and the retaining rings had completely let go. This thing was done.

Here's what we were working with - a cylinder eye that had spun and chewed itself up to the point where there was nothing left to salvage as-is. The bore surface was torn, the old bushing was shredded, and the whole end of the component needed to be built back up before any machining could happen. That's where our heavy equipment welding repair work comes in. We built the material back up with a solid weld, then moved into the line boring process to bring the bore back to spec.

The line boring side of this repair is where precision really matters. Once we welded the eye back up, we ran it through our portable line boring setup to machine the bore clean and true. The finished bore came out smooth and perfectly sized to accept a new bushing - exactly what it needs to function the way it was designed to. No slop, no play. Just a tight, accurate bore ready to carry load.

Once the new bushing was pressed in and sealed, the cylinder was fully reassembled and ready to go back on the truck. The completed component - cleaned up, sealed, and rebuilt end to end - went right back under that Komatsu and back into service. That's the whole point. Get the machine working again, and do it right so it doesn't come back for the same reason.

This is the kind of repair that a lot of shops either can't do or won't touch. Between the welding build-up and the line boring, there's real skill involved in getting the geometry right on a component like this. We handle both sides of that in-house, which means less time shuffling parts between vendors and more time getting your equipment back on the job.
